Expected death in hospital

In many cases, when someone passes away in hospital, it is not necessary for us to attend immediately. Most hospitals have temporary facilities to care for your loved one while the necessary paperwork is completed. We recommend you contact our team during normal working hours to inform us of the death, we will then guide you through the next steps.

Most major hospitals have a bereavement office to support you through the process of obtaining the necessary certificates and registering the death. We would recommend contacting the Bereavement Office after 10am, the next working day after your bereavement to ensure they have your correct contact details. In smaller community hospitals the ward staff would usually perform this role.

Once all the necessary certificates have been completed, (and with the consent of the person in charge of the funeral arrangements) upon your instruction, we will then be able to transfer your loved on to our care.
